A Cal-240 with the integrated baseplate. Kingpin always feels a little wonky. Obviously replacement wheels. Anything bigger would rub on the hanger.

Comparison with the converted cal-240. This originally had trucks with metal baseplates screwed into the bottom of the plastic deck. I think I may have accidentally extended the wheelbase a little. Feels pretty good though.

A bit more wheelbase there. And certainly more weight with the extra heavy plastic deck on the cal-240.

Cal-240 rebuild

This Universal truck is a beauty. Looks like an old Bennett Pro. I suppose they all did back then though. I've seen others in this style. Lasers. I wonder were they all Bennett copies? This is from a 70's Cal-240 plastic skateboard.



I broke the baseplate to this truck's mate a few years ago messing around in the driveway. Bummer.








Thought I might drill out the board so I could put new trucks on.


While considering what truck would be narrow enough to fit, I stumbled upon the idea of putting the Universal hangers on a different baseplate.





Not a perfect fit...Perhaps the kingpin is not quite the right angle or maybe there should be more distance between the pivot cup and the kingpin.


That being said the trucks work really well.

Had a transitional moment during testing with an Indy 169 in the rear.

The super carving front and stable platform rear felt pretty good. Worth revisiting.

Also, I really kind of liked the rocket ship vibe.


Left the bushings stock. OJ's and Bones reds. All I need is some fresh hardware, and eventually a more appropriate base, but as is it is one of the most fun things ever.

June 13 2008 rehearsal gig. First show in 16 years.

Their videos give us out in the Midwest US a chance to see the inside of a MBV gig. A lot of these early 90's British import revival tours are skipping out on MI tourdates. It's a shame because I think they all came through back in the day and still have a lot of fans that would like to see them again. I suppose that we get a Chicago date now and then. Maybe they think it's easier to get to Chicago than it really is.

So, here we are with all these shows out of reach..physically, geographically and financially. It's nice to know that we can count on youtube.
